My name is Joe Davenport and I work with Jacob's Well and Philip Lesniewski helping coordinate the Second Saturday Events.  I am hoping this blog will help us keep you up to date on all things Second Saturday.  There are several posts here and if you scroll down the page they should be able to answer all your questions.  If you need to contact me for any reason you may do so at my email -

BASIC INFO

WHAT IS SECOND SATURDAYS?

Second Saturdays is a volunteer based outreach that happens every Second Saturday of each month.  It is intended to be an easy way to get plugged in at Jacob's Well and the community around us.

WHEN AND WHERE IS SECOND SATURDAYS?

We meet on the second Saturday of each month at Jacob's Well Church at 9am.  There is a door on the side of the church that will be marked with a sign.  If you are facing the front double doors of the church the side door is to the right side of the building.  Go in the side door and up to the third floor.  You will find us in the common area.  It never hurts to be a few minutes early.  Feel free to call me if you can't find us.  Joe Davneport @ 925-640-9689

WHO CAN COME TO SECOND SATURDAYS?

Anyone.  It is intended to be simple and easy.  We work hard but it is made to be a no hassle way to get plugged into community outreach.  The work may take you out of your comfort zone but getting started is as easy as showing up and we'll lead you through the rest.

SHOULD I SIGN UP? WHERE DO I SIGN UP?

Sending us an email that you are coming to an event is always nice.  It is not a requirement.  That said if you do notify us and then decide not to come please let us know.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING.

Always be weather conscious.  We do a lot of work outside.  Always be ready to get dirty.  For more specifics shoot me an email and I will put you on our list.  We try to send out an email each month suggesting what to bring.  

CAN I BRING MY KIDS?

You can bring your children.  HOWEVER... It is not advised.  Most of our events are outside and usually dealing with work that requires a lot of attention.  Other events will bring you in contact with a rougher side of our community.  If you bring your kids you must be prepared to supervise them and be forewarned that these events are not set up to be kid friendly.

WILL THERE BE KID FRIENDLY EVENTS IN THE FUTURE?

Yes.  We recognize that the majority of our community is made up of young families.  We are working to find appropriate events these folks. We will keep you posted.  If you have suggestions please email Joe Davenport at theraggedfew@yahoo.com

IS IT HARD, IS IT EMBARRASSING, WILL I BE ASK TO DO SOMETHING I DON'T WANT TO?

Simply put. NO.  Community outreach always comes with some challenges.  It will take you out of your comfort zone.  That being said we will walk you through every step of the way.  We will guide you into projects that fit well with you.  While we push you to expand yourself we will make sure to be with you through the whole process.

IS THIS A GOOD PLACE FOR NEWCOMERS?

YES!  We highly suggest that folks who are new to Jacob's Well come out for a Second Saturday.  It is a great way to get plugged in and meet some folks.  It will show you very quickly the heart that we have for the community around us.

WILL WE BE WITNESSING AND TELLING PEOPLE ABOUT JESUS.

We will not ask you to preach while we are out working.  The help we offer is pressure and agenda free.  That being said we will never discourage you from telling people about Jesus.  We suggest focussing on relationships and letting the Holy Spirit guide you.

WHAT IF I NEED HELP OR KNOW OF A PROJECT?

You only need to ask.  There may be things that are out of our scope for Second Saturdays but do not be afraid to ask or suggest.  We will do whatever we can and point you towards help if it's something we cannot do.  Send emails to Joe at - theraggedfew@yahoo.com or call me at 925-640-9689

DOES AND DON'TS

A LIST OF SAFETY CONCERNS.

BE AWARE OF HOW WE DRESS.  SHORT SHORTS, LOW CUT T'S, AND SHIRTLESS MEN ARE NOT ADVISED.  JUST BE CONSCIOUS.

DO NOT GO INTO ANYONES HOUSE ALONE EVER FOR ANY REASON!

DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR PERSONAL INFO.

DO NOT TAKE RIDES WITH SOMEONE YOU DO NOT KNOW UNLESS IN A GROUP.

LADIES WHEN WORKING ON A PROJECT DO NOT WANDER TO FAR WITH OUT SOMEONE ELSE YOU KNOW WITH YOU.  FELLAS THIS GOES FOR YOU TOO ACTUALLY.

ALWAYS TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING, DON'T WANDER OFF.
